5-Minute Farm-to-Table Snacks for Toddlers
Snack time hits fast and often when you've got a toddler, and it's usually the moment you least feel like cooking. These are five snacks we make often here on the farm — all ready in 5 minutes or less, and all built around real, whole ingredients.
1. Creamy Porridge Bites Mix leftover cooked porridge with a spoon of yoghurt and a mashed banana, roll into small bitesized balls, and chill for 10 minutes. Soft enough for little ones, hearty enough to actually fill them up.
2. Frozen Yoghurt Bark Spread yoghurt thinly on a lined tray, scatter with diced soft fruit, freeze for an hour, then snap into pieces. A brilliant one for hot Byron Bay afternoons.
3. Avocado & Nut Butter Smash Mash avocado with a little lemon juice and a spoon of your favourite smooth nut butter, spread on toast fingers or rice cakes. Good fats, easy grip, zero fuss.
4. Rice Cake Toppers Rice cakes with cream cheese and thin apple slices. Crunchy, creamy, and easy for small hands.
5. Farm Fruit & Nut Butter Bites Chopped soft dried fruit rolled through a little smooth nut butter — a toddler-safe take on trail mix. Great for the car, the pram, or the school bag once they're a bit older.
A quick note on nuts and littlies: whole or chopped nuts are a choking hazard for babies and young toddlers, so stick to smooth nut butters rather than nut pieces. If you're introducing a nut butter for the first time, follow the same slow, one-at-a-time approach as any other common allergen. Every one of these came out of a real weekday scramble here on the farm — happy to hear which ones your family actually eats (versus which ones end up on the floor).
